Mary Mother of the Poor at present has programs of feeding daily 3,000 malnourished children in the country, livelihood to 200 indigent families and more than a thousand beneficiaries of its scholarship programs for basic, vocational and tertiary education.  It partners with educational institutions by building classrooms for schools and offering subsidies to those who would want to enter the seminaries for priestly and Religious vocations. It has engaged into providing health services, medical and dental missions, relief goods to the affected disaster areas, housing project for the poor and funding fisheries biological center. It is indeed reaching out to the poorest of the poor through various empowerment, sustainable and development programs.

“Why build a monumental shrine that would heavily cost so much which may have more practical use if placed at direct service and programs for those economically poor instead?”  Such is the usual and pervading notion or argument that comes to the minds of many.

It is in the great desire to liberate a great multitude of people suffering from poverty in all its forms, locally and / or globally that an equally expansive project would be utilized as an approach and a method.  The great problem on poverty at this very epoch has been systemic. It has corrupted not only the economic dimension of the person, but it has affected the very fiber of man and humanity in totality.  MonteMaria has shifted its paradigm in helping and healing the poor both in intent and extent, in perspective and processes directed by its foundational spirituality, values and principles inspired by Mary, the Mother of the Poor.
